What is a deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic technique aimed at the deepest layers of the muscles and the connective tissue – the fascia. Unlike the classic massage, which works mainly on the surface and for relaxation, here the therapist applies slow, targeted and more intense pressure to reach the places where tension has truly settled in.
Classic massage
Works on the surface with gentle pressure, for relaxation. Chosen for unwinding and general body care.
Deep tissue massage
Penetrates the deep muscle layers and fascia with slow, intense pressure. Chosen for releasing chronic tension and pain.
The technique developed during the 20th century on the basis of classic massage and physiotherapy, and today it is one of the most sought-after treatments for chronic muscle tension and pain. The therapist works with smooth but deep movements along the muscle fibres, and sometimes across them, to break down the so-called knots – permanently contracted and adhered areas of tissue.
Physiologically, deep pressure releases muscle adhesions and thickenings, improves blood flow to the overloaded areas and supports tissue recovery. The body responds with a gradual release of the muscle, less pain and the return of natural mobility.
Deep tissue massage reaches where an ordinary massage cannot.
It is not about surface pampering but about real release – for a body that carries accumulated tension and is finally longing to let go.

Who deep tissue massage is for
Deep tissue massage is the right choice if:
- You carry chronic tension or pain in your back, neck and shoulders.
- You work physically or train intensely and your muscles are constantly overloaded.
- You spend long hours in the same position and feel stiffness that an ordinary massage doesn't remove.
- You are recovering from exertion and want your muscles to regenerate faster.
- You have posture problems caused by a sedentary lifestyle.
- You have already tried a classic massage but are looking for deeper, more targeted work.
ImportantThis massage is more intense than the classic one. The pressure is always adjusted to your tolerance – tell your therapist if you feel anything beyond pleasant discomfort.
When not to have a deep tissue massage
For your safety, we recommend postponing the massage or consulting your doctor first if:
- You have a fever, or a viral or bacterial infection.
- You have acute inflammation, injuries or skin infections in the massage area.
- You have thrombosis, thrombophlebitis or serious vascular conditions.
- You take blood-thinning medication or bruise easily.
- You have recently had surgery or have unhealed wounds or fractures.
- You have uncontrolled high blood pressure or serious heart problems.
- You are pregnant (for expectant mothers we offer a specialised pregnancy massage).
With osteoporosis, oncological conditions, varicose veins or chronic conditions – always inform your therapist in advance so the pressure and technique can be adapted to you.

What does Secret SPA provide?
Everything you need – clean towels, quality massage oils, a robe and slippers, and a warm, calm atmosphere with soft lighting and music. All you bring is yourself and the readiness to let the tension go.
Preparation and care before and after the massage
Before the massage
- Eat something light an hour or two beforehand – come neither hungry nor full.
- Drink water so your body is well hydrated – muscles respond better to pressure that way.
- Avoid alcohol before the session.
- Arrive a few minutes early to settle in and leave the rush at the door.
After the massage
- Drink more water over the next few hours.
- The next day you may feel mild muscle soreness, similar to the feeling after a workout – this is normal and passes in a day or two.
- Give yourself time to rest and avoid intense exertion straight after the massage.
- A warm bath or light stretching helps the muscles relax even further.
